The Cup this year has been a tough journey and will continue into our Quarter Final Game this weekend.
Probably having been placed in the toughest group in the pool games it was always going to be tough for our relatively new squad. Going From having barely 15 players at the start of the season we have now become a squad of near 30 players.
Our pool games this season saw us play some tough sides Didsbury TOC H who we always have a great battle with, Southport who have become somewhat rivals over the past seasons but have the benefit of Rugby Playing Schools and Ormskirk who we had only played once in a festival before and ended up runners up.
Our turning point came when travelling to last year competition winners in Warrington a side who have not had a point scored against them since last years cup final. Whilst the amassed a decent score against up we pressurized them for good periods of the game.
The Warrington coach said to his players after the game do not worry about the Prestons, the Southports and the Ormskirks over the next few season whatch this side Rossendale.
Then into last weeks playoff against our old rivals Didsbury who had already narrowly beat us in the pool game. But this game was all so different with Rossendale continuously apply pressure and running in four tries. We wanted this win more than TOC H and eventually came out winners. On to the quarter final this Sunday and the Dale lads have to travel to another team who closely beat us by two points earlier in the season. In that game against Ashton we played better rugby than them building phases of play but succumbed to three 60 plus meter tries with some woeful tackling. I am not expecting Ashton to recognised many from our new look side but feel we have the tools in the locker room to grind out a result which would come against every other clubs form book but our own. We know in the last two years there were not so many sides who could beat us and believe by the start of next season we will be back in that position.
Without doubt the under 13's Barmy Army of parents and supporters will be in good voice on Sunday
